Carbon neutral meat - already a reality in Australia

Australian company Flinders + Co has achieved a new global standard by becoming the first 100% carbon neutral meat supplier.

The approach came about when Flinders + Co asked Australia’s Carbon Reduction Institute, to analyse their entire supply chain. The results prompted the company to seek emission reductions, and invest in carbon offsetting projects.

Flinders + Co switched to electricity from renewable sources, and from using coal to power their industrial processes to cleaner daisy flower by-products. They also work with a pork supplier which harvests methane from pig manure to power its operations, and support carbon offset projects around the world – such as the Lifestraw project, which distributes water purification units to Kenyan communities to eliminate the need to boil water using fossil fuels.

But Flinders + Co hasn’t stopped its sustainability efforts there. The supplier is now committed to reducing the amount of non-recyclable plastics and single-use cardboard involved in packaging and transportation.
