How farmers are boosting biodiversity in Australia

With a landmass of 7.6million km2, it’s fair to say Australia is a vast country. Given that 59% of the landmass is used for agriculture, it’s absolutely vital that the agricultural industry plays an active role in conservation efforts.

The AUD $2bn natural resource management initiative Caring for our Countrywas established in 2008 to support this work. The initiative funds innovative land management practices on farms across Australia, including the red meat industry, and monitors and measures the impact of these initiatives.

In Australia, 65% of agricultural businesses have native vegetation on their land and, thanks to Caring for our Country, an estimated 30m hectares of native vegetation has been protected, improving soil conditions while promoting a healthy environment.
