People who enjoy Australian beef, sheepmeat or goatmeat trust that it is safe, ethically-produced and of a high quality. That’s why Australian red meat is enjoyed in over 100 countries worldwide, including across the EU. It is this trust that allows Australian livestock producers to stand by what they sell.

Maintaining trust in Australian red meat is not something that is left to chance. Since 1999, all livestock in Australia have been traced from farm to plate through the The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) – a centralised identification and traceability database.

This traceability underpins our our system of food safety measures and quality assurance that guarantees the integrity of the red meat industry – what we call the Red Meat Integrity System. Quality is assured through Meat Standards Australia, a certification scheme developed by the red meat industry to measure and grade meat according to multiple factors that impact eating quality.
